Men's Golf Southern Conference

College of Charleston Ranked Sixth in Golfweek Poll

The College of Charleston's men's golf team is ranked 6th nationally in the lastest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

Charleston, which has earned NCAA Tournament bids in each of the last two seasons, has competed in two tournaments this fall.

The Cougars hosted and won the 15-team Cleveland Golf/Kiawah Intercollegiate Tournament held September 9-11 at Kiawah Island's Turtle Point Golf Course by eight strokes over Mississippi.

Charleston finished second in the 11-team Vanderbilt/Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate held Sept. 16-17 at Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

Senior Bruce McDonald and junior Adam Grodhaus lead the Cougars with a 70.17 stroke average. McDonald won the Kiawah Tournament with a three-round total of 2-under-par 214, while Grodhaus shot 66-68-66 (10-under par) to finish second at the Vanderbilt/Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate.

"This is a tribute to our young men who have worked so hard to get to this point," said Cougar coach Mark Steelman, who last season led Charleston to the Southern Conference title. "It's important that we continue to work extremely hard and improve each week. This is a good start to the season as we work towards our goal of winnning another Southern Conference championship and earning our third straight NCAA Tournament bid."
