The UNCG men's golf team carded a 297 in the third round today to tie for eighth of 15 teams at 882 in the Bruce Fossum/TeamGearOnline.com Invitational in East Lansing, MI.
Northwestern placed two golfers in the top three on its way to an 851 final score and 10-stroke victory over runner-up Minnesota. Michigan State was third at 863, Wisconsin fourth at 873, Ohio State fifth at 877, Iowa sixth at 879, and Kent State seventh at 881. The Spartans tied eighth with Eastern Michigan.
Andy Crain jumped 11 spots to tie 14th after shooting an even-par 71 today for a 217 total. Also for UNCG, Jason Martin and Karl Mitchell tied 22nd at 220, James Stanofski tied 51st at 226, and John Hancock tied 66th at 230.
Northwestern's Luke Donald shot a seven-under 64 in the third round to take individual medalist honors. He finished at 205, two strokes better than runner-up Wilhelm Schauman of Minnesota. Second-round leader Chris Thayer of Northwestern was third at 209, while Ohio StateUs Mike Austin, Michigan StateUs Brent Goik, and MarshallUs Aaron Williams all tied fourth at 214.
Also in the tournament, Michigan finished 10th at 884, Missouri 11th at 886, Illinois 12th at 890, Marshall 13th at 892, Xavier 14th at 896, and Indiana 15th at 917.
