Southern Conference Men's Golf Honors Announced

ASHEVILLE, N.C. Following the final round of the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championships Sunday from Lexington Golf and Country Club in Lexington, Va., the SoCon Freshman-of-the-Year, Coach-of-the-Year, Player-of-the-Year and All-Conference Team was announced.

The Southern Conference Freshman-of-the-Year is Jay Mundy of Furman. Mundy finished in a tie for fourth at the Championships and fired a 69 in the first-round which tied for the low round of the tournament.

The Southern Conference Coach-of-the-Year is Mark Steelman of College of Charleston. Steelman has led his Cougars to the lowest stroke average in the SoCon (294.1) and a current #47 national ranking.

The Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year is Chris Wisler of East Tennessee State. Wisler, the 1999 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championships Medalist has had a stellar 1999-2000 campaign. Wisler is second in the SoCon in stroke average (72.1) and currently holds a #22 national ranking.

East Tennessee State and College of Charleston tied for the lead with two members of the All-Conference Team. 2000 Southern Conference Medalist Pat Beste and his predecessor Wisler made the team for the Bucs while 35th ranked Jedd McLuen and Mac Cannon received the honor for the Cougars. William McGirt of Wofford, Matt Stroud of Georgia Southern, Bern Gregory of Appalachian State and Andy Crain of UNC Greensboro round out the field.
