Thursday's Women's Tennis Roundup

No. 40 Furman 7, UNCG 0
No. 40 Furman blanked UNC Greensboro, 7-0, Thursday in Southern Conference women's tennis action at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.The Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to score the opening point.  Seniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder, who rank 58th nationally, downed Alexandra Dodashev and Olivia Gallagher, 6-2, at flight one, and seniors Grace Thomas and Alexa Griffith defeated Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson, 6-1, at number three.  The Spartans picked up a victory at flight two, where Sydney Bly and Raegan Mitchell teamed up to beat 64th-ranked senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock, 6-4. 

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell 7-0 in its 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) opener on Thursday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, South Carolina. The Paladins got the scoring started by gaining the doubles point for the 1-0 lead. Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder notched the first match of the day in a 6-2 win over Alexandra Dodashev and Olivia Gallagher on court one. At doubles court three, Alexa Griffith and Grace Thomas collected a 6-1 victory over Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson, granting Furman with the 1-0 advantage. Raegan Mitchell and Sydney Bly recorded a 6-4 win over Jess Dawson and Macy Hitchcock before heading into singles action.


Mercer 7, Queens 0
The Mercer women's tennis team shut out a shorthanded Queens team, 7-0 Thursday morning from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Queens dressed four healthy players, meaning the Bears won one doubles match and two singles matches by forfeit to begin the match. In the two doubles matches, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg didn't lose a game in a dominant 6-0 win over Jett Coetzee and Audrey Serbto of Queens to clinch the doubles point for the Bears. The other doubles match was close between Mercer's Dzhastina Mikhnova and Marie Bannmeyer and Queens' Lucy Hogan and Andreea Onitoiu. Ultimately, Mikhnova and Bannmeyer came out on top with a 7-5 win
