ETSU’s Markova named SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Senior honored for the third time after finishing this season undefeated in conference play.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Sofia Markova has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from April 9-15, the conference announced on Tuesday.  The award is selected by the league office.
 
Markova, who received the honor March 26 and April 2, went 2-0 this week, picking up a singles win at the No. 1 position, and a doubles wins at the No. 2 position against Furman in a match to determine the SoCon Regular Season title.
 
On April 13 against Furman, Markova paired with Alessandra Caceres for a double match up with Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder. Markova and Caceres won 6-2, clinching the doubles point for the Buccaneers. In her singles matchup against Snyder, the Nuremberg, Germany, native won in three sets, two of which went to a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 7-6 (8-6). With her singles win, Markova clinched the match and regular season title for the Bucs, their first since joining the conference.

ETSU (14-7, 7-0 SoCon) will play UNCG (3-18, 1-6 SoCon) in the first round of the Southern Conference Championship on Thursday in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
