Western Carolina’s Jade Groen named SoCon player of the week
Junior went 3-0 at No. 1 singles

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Jade Groen has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 25-March 3, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
In a 5-2 loss at Furman to open SoCon play, Groen teamed up with Chloe Schwarz to take down the 58th-ranked pair of Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder at the No. 1 doubles position, 7-5. At court one, the junior defeated Snyder, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
On Feb. 28 at UNC Asheville, the Zoetermeer, Netherlands, product defeated Alexis Nyborg, 6-3, 6-1, in a 4-3 Catamount team win. Two days later, on March 2, Groen defeated Ema Baraniakova of Kennesaw State, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles position.
Western Carolina (6-7, 0-1 SoCon) will play FDU on Monday, March 10, to begin tournament play on Orlando, Florida.
