No. 41 Furman 6, Wofford 1
The Paladins (17-3, 6-0 SoCon) won two out of three doubles matches to score the opening point. Senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock blew past Grace Agster and Catherin Blouin, 6-1, at flight two, and seniors Alexa Griffith and Grace Thomas defeated Chloe Elliott and Brianna Wilbur, 6-4, at number three for the point. At flight one, the Terriers' Breda Brenna and Lily Woods held off seniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder, 7-6(3). In singles action, Furman won five of six matches, all in straight sets.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Furman University at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Paladins, ranked #41 in the nation, won two of the three doubles matches and then five of the six singles matches. Furman won the first doubles match by a 6-1 score at the #2 position. At the #3 position, Chloe Elliott and Brianna Wilbur took a 4-3 lead before falling 6-4 as the Paladins clinched the doubles point. The #1 doubles match was tied at 5-5 when Furman broke serve for a 6-5 advantage. Breda Brennan and Lily Woods then broke serve for a tie at 6-6. In the tiebreaker, Wofford claimed a 7-3 win.
Elon 6, UNCG 1
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team lost a 6-1 non-conference match to the Elon Phoenix on Wednesday at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. Elon tallied the first point of the day after securing all three doubles matches. Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding defeated Olivia Gallagher and Alexandra Dodashev, 6-0, on court one. Miray Konar and Heidi Bulger secured a 1-0 lead for the Phoenix after notching a 6-3 win over Lauren Thomson and Ella Olexa on court three. Helen Sarikulaya and Lisa Kranec recorded a 6-2 win over Raegan Mitchell and Sydney Bly at No. 2 doubles as the Phoenix held a 1-0 lead going into singles action.
