Chattanooga’s Rufaro Magarira named SoCon player of the week
Sophomore gets four wins for the Mocs
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Rufaro Magarira has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 10-16, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Magarira went a combined 4-0 over the singles and doubles matches last week, playing on court one each time out. On March 13, the sophomore posted a 6-1, 6-3, victory over Tennessee Wesleyan’s Ruslana Kovalenko, and combined with teammate Savannah Presson for a 6-2 win in doubles. In the team’s conference opener at UNCG on March 15, the product of Harare, Zimbabwe, joined Presson once again to win a point-clinching 7-6 decision in doubles, before winning her ninth straight singles match, 6-2, 7-5, over Sophia Cedeno.
Chattanooga plays at North Alabama on March 18, before welcoming Wofford for its SoCon dual of the season on March 21. The Mocs end the week at Alabama A&M on March 22.
