Furman’s Lillie Murphy named SoCon player of the week
Freshman got five wins for the Paladins
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Lillie Murphy has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 3-9, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Murphy, who also won the honor on Jan. 20, led Furman to a 3-0 record last week. The freshman played in the second flight in each match, winning each time in straight sets as the Paladins won, 4-0, at Toledo on March 4, 7-0, versus Belmont on March 7, and capping the weekend with a 4-2 victory over Virginia Tech on March 8. The native of Knoxville, Tennessee, combined with Elle Warren for wins in the No. 1 spot in doubles against Belmont and Virginia Tech.
Furman hosts Elon on March 14.
