Western Carolina’s Mariya Dobreva named SoCon player of the week
Sophomore goes 6-0 last week for the Catamounts
SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Western Carolina’s Mariya Dobreva has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 10-16, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Dobreva was 3-0 in singles and doubles at the No. 1 flight last week. In singles, the sophomore had two wins in straight sets, the first coming on Feb. 10 against Young Harris, and the other on Feb. 14 at Presbyterian. The native of Montreal, Quebec, combined with teammate Mia Miranda for each of her doubles wins last week as the duo won, 6-1, versus Young Harris, 6-2, against Gardner-Webb and, 6-3, over Presbyterian. Dobreva is currently on a four-match winning streak in singles.
Western Carolina will travel to ETSU for its first conference matchup of the season on Feb. 24.
