Samford’s Eleni Liakonis named SoCon player of the week
Sophomore got two wins for the Bulldogs
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Eleni Liakonis has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 27-Feb. 2, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Liakonis led Samford to a 5-2 win over Alabama State. The native of Knoxville, Tennessee, won at the No. 3 spot in singles, 6-1, 6-2. The sophomore teamed up with Hailey Troup for a 6-4 win in doubles at the No. 2 flight, giving the pair their first win of the season.
Samford returns to action at Belmont on Feb. 6.
