Furman’s Lille Murphy named SoCon player of the week
Freshman gets a pair of singles and doubles victories
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Lillie Murphy has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 13-19, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Murphy went 2-0 in doubles at flight one and 2-1 in singles at flight two, as Furman got wins over Presbyterian and Austin Peay over the week. On Jan. 17, the freshman combined with teammate Sasha Dimitrov for a 6-1 win over Iowa tandem Daianne Hayashida and Mia Mack, before topping Presbyterian’s Roxy Valdes, 6-2, 6-1, in singles. Against Austin Peay on Jan. 19, the native of Knoxville, Tennessee, teamed up with Dimitrov for a 6-2 win in doubles, and claimed a 6-2, 6-2, win over Luca Bohlen in singles.
Furman hosts Wake Forest on Jan. 24, and Davidson on Jan. 25.
