Thursday's Women's Tennis Roundup

Mercer 5 , Samford 2
Mercer came out on top on Senior Day by defeating Samford, 5-2 Thursday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Mercer recognized its three seniors before the match in  Emilia Cosatto Kennedi Jones  and  Dzhastina Mikhnova . The Bears won the doubles point and the first three singles matches to clinch the match while up 4-0. In doubles action, Samford's Sara Erenda and Emily Surcey won the first match by defeating  Emilia Cosatto  and  Tea Zivic , 6-3. On court three,  Marie Bannmeyer  and  Dzhastina Mikhnova  were able to defeat Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor, 6-4. Bannmeyer and Mikhnova's win was the first doubles loss in SoCon play for Samford's Liakonis and Taylor who were 5-0 in the conference and 15-3 overall entering the day paired together. 

The Samford women's tennis team fell, 5-2, at Mercer Thursday afternoon. With the loss, Samford fell to 9-12 overall and 1-5 in Southern Conference play. Mercer improved to 7-13 overall and 3-4 in league play. Mercer won on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead. In singles, Samford won at No. 4 and No. 5, but Mercer won at the other positions to take the 5-2 win.
