Western Carolina's DeMarco & Marcil Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Region

DeMarco named to the second team, Marcil received third team honors

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina sophomore forward Isabella DeMarco and junior midfielder Naya Marcil were named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-Southeast Region team as announced on Tuesday afternoon. DeMarco was named to the second team and Marcil received third team honors as the two Catamounts were the only two in the Southern Conference to be named to the region teams.
 
The pair also became just the second and third Catamounts to be recognized by the United Soccer Coaches Association joining Natalie McNally who was named third-team Southeast All-Region following the 2021 campaign.
 
DeMarco, the 2023 SoCon Player of the Year finished with a team-high 10 goals along with seven assists on the year to finished tied for the team lead with 27 points. She did not win a weekly award from the SoCon but did earn the offensive player of the month in August during the 2023 regular season in coming away with the seasonal hardware.
 
A first-team All-SoCon honoree DeMarco posted a pair of multi-goal games, scoring twice in a win over UNCG, and recorded her second career hat trick in the road win at Winthrop (Aug. 23). DeMarco also led all players in Southern Conference play with five goals and tallied a league-high 13 points.
 
Naya Marcil was one of two Catamounts to collect multiple weekly awards from the SoCon this season, twice garnering the league's Offensive Player of the Week plaudits on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10. Marcil ranked fourth in the SoCon with nine goals scored including three game-winners all coming on 25 shots on goal. Marcil tied for the most assists in the SoCon with nine, and she finished tied for second in the league with 27 points including five matches with three or more points.
 
Originally from Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, Marcil posted a career-best five points with two goals and an assist in a road win at Winthrop, while also recording a pair of three-match goal-scoring streaks from both Aug. 23 through Aug. 31 along with Sept. 28 through Oct. 5. Marcil was tops in the league during SoCon play with six assists including a pair in the Catamounts 5-0 win against Friday's opposition, Wofford, as she finished in a tie for second with 12 points.
 
Marcil also was one of six Catamounts to garner College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors announced earlier this month.
