SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Isabella DeMarco and defender Abbie Wise have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Oct. 22-28.

DeMarco, who also won the honor on Oct. 15, led Western Carolina to a pair of road conference wins last week. The Charleston, South Carolina, native scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute of the team’s 2-0 win at Furman on Oct. 24. The junior added an assist to her sister, Alexis, in the 79th minute of the contest. DeMarco’s goal against Furman clinched back-to-back regular season titles, the first time the Catamounts have won two in a row in program history.

Wise led the Western Carolina backline last week as the team produced two clean sheets. The native of Greensboro, North Carolina played 90 minutes at Furman and at Chattanooga on Oct. 27, a game the team won 1-0. The redshirt junior also had two shots on goal during the contests. Western Carolina’s win over Chattanooga secured the first undefeated SoCon record for the Catamounts in program history.

Western Carolina (13-2-3, 8-0-1) will play in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Championship at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1, against the winner of Tuesday’s first round match between Wofford and VMI. The game will be played in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
