SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford forward Megan Childress and Western Carolina goalkeeper Leanne Trudel have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 17-23.

Childress had seven points last week as Wofford went 1-1 in its first two SoCon matches. In a 2-1 setback against Chattanooga on Sept. 19, the senior logged an assist in the 49th minute when she found teammate Ines Obradovac for a goal. Three days later, the native of Alpharetta, Georgia, logged her first career hat trick in a 4-3 victory at The Citadel. Childress, who started and played 51 minutes, scored all three goals in the second half, recording scores in the 47th, 56th and 77th minutes. The hat trick from Childress was just the fourth in program history.

Trudel played all 180 minutes inside the net for Western Carolina last week as the Catamounts won both of their games. The junior had three saves in a 2-0 win over Samford on Sept. 19. The Longueuil, Quebec, product finished another four saves as Western Carolina topped Mercer, 1-0, on Sept. 22. Trudel currently leads the SoCon in save percentage (84.1%). With the last two wins, the Catamounts have now logged seven straight clean sheets.

Wofford (5-5-1, 1-1-0 SoCon) plays at Samford (4-6-1, 1-1-0) on Sept. 27. Western Carolina (7-2-2, 2-0-0) travels to Furman (5-4-2, 1-0-1) on Sept. 27.
