SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced
Mercer’s Moorman and Western Carolina’s Campbell honored
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer forward Jada Moorman and Western Carolina defender Becca Campbell have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Oct. 17-23.
Moorman, who received the honor on Sept. 12 and 26, started and played 58 minutes for Mercer as the Bears defeated The Citadel, 2-0, on Sunday. The Cincinnati, Ohio, product scored a goal and had an assist in the contest. The sophomore’s goal came in the 51st minute, scoring the first goal of the game. Seven minutes later, Moorman assisted on the team’s second goal of the game, which was scored by Larkin Thomason. Moorman leads the SoCon in total goals (11) and game-winning goals (5).
Campbell played all 90 minutes against ETSU as Western Carolina fell to the Bucs, 2-1, in the season finale on Sunday. The native of Edmonton, Alberta, scored the Catamounts’ only goal of the game in the 85th minute. Campbell’s score was off a penalty kick, marking the senior’s third goal of conference play. Sunday’s match also marked the 14th time that Campbell has played all 90 minutes in a contest this season.
Mercer (9-5-5, 4-4-1 SoCon) is the No. 7 seed for the conference tournament and will host No. 10 seed The Citadel (3-8-6, 0-7-2) on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the first round. Western Carolina (10-4-3, 7-2-0) is the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and will host the winner of No. 8 Wofford (4-10-4) and No. 9 VMI (2-16-0, 1-8-0) on Friday, Oct. 27.
