SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

Western Carolina’s Hahn and VMI’s Tracy honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Western Carolina forward Kirsten Hahn and VMI goalkeeper Whitney Tracy have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Aug. 15-19.

Hahn played in both games for Western Carolina last week as the Catamounts went 1-1. She logged 28 minutes and attempted one shot in the team’s season opener, a 2-0 setback at Florida on Aug. 16. Two days later, the native of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, achieved a hat trick in the squad’s home opener as Western Carolina defeated UNC Asheville 6-1. The senior’s first goal of the contest, which proved to be the game winner, came in the 38th minute. Hahn’s other two goals came in the 66th and 69th minutes.

Tracy played all 180 minutes inside the net for VMI as the Keydets won both of its contests last week. VMI won its season opener versus Davidson, 1-0, on Aug. 15, before topping American, 1-0, on Aug. 18. In the game against Davidson, the Blandon, Pennsylvania, product faced 15 shots, saving eight of those to log her first shutout of the week. The senior faced another 18 shots in the match with American, recording four saves to get her second shutout.

Western Carolina (1-1) travels to Queens on Thursday, Aug. 22, before hosting Longwood on Sunday, Aug. 25. VMI (2-0), who is off to its best start in six seasons, plays against Emory & Henry on Saturday, Aug. 24.
