SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford midfielder Anne McBride and ETSU defender Ella Parker have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 15-21.

McBride came in off the bench and contributed to both goals in Samford’s 2-1 win over Western Carolina on Sept. 20. The sophomore assisted on the first goal of the contest in the 39th minute, when she found teammate Sam De Luca for a goal. The native of Homewood, Alabama, logged a goal in the 75th minute, which ended up being the game-winning score. McBride’s goal was her first of the season.

Parker started and led the backline as ETSU logged a pair of shutout wins to begin its conference slate of games. On Sept. 17, the product of Jefferson, Georgia, played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 win versus Mercer, who was the league’s top scoring offense entering SoCon play. Three days later, the senior scored the game’s first goal as the Bucs defeated Wofford, 2-0. Overall, the ETSU defense allowed just three shots on goal over the two matches.

Samford welcomes Mercer on Friday. ETSU plays against Tennessee Tech on Friday.
