SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

Mercer’s Bori and Furman’s DeJong honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer midfielder Olivia Bori and Furman goalkeeper Reese DeJong have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 1-7.

Bori, who also won the honor on Aug. 25, helped Mercer to a pair of wins last week. On Sept. 3, the senior scored two goals in a 4-0 win at Winthrop. Three days later, the native of Jacksonville, Florida, scored the opening goal of the contest as Mercer defeated Alabama State, 5-0. Bori leads the SoCon in goals with seven, which is ranked sixth in the NCAA.

DeJong played all 180 minutes inside the net for Furman, logging a pair of shutouts for the Paladins. The junior recorded five saves in an 1-0 victory over Presbyterian on Sept. 3. In a 3-0 win at Charleston Southern on Sept. 6, the product of Huntersville, North Carolina, finished with four saves. DeJong has recorded a shutout in each of her last three times out.

Mercer plays at South Florida on Thursday. Furman hosts USC Upstate on Thursday, and Davidson on Sunday.

Also nominated for offensive player of the week: Jada Cooper (ETSU), Maddie Massie (Furman), and Quinn Johnson (Chattanooga)

 

Also nominated for defensive player of the week: Regan Moore (Mercer), Peyton Hull (Samford), Addie Taylor (Chattanooga), and Amara Yetka (Western Carolina)
