SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Isabella DeMarco and UNCG goalkeeper Emma Malone have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 30-Oct. 6.

DeMarco scored five goals for Western Carolina last week as the Catamounts won a pair of conference matches last week. The native of Charleston, South Carolina, recorded a hat trick versus VMI on Oct. 2, netting goals in the 17th, 18th and 32nd minutes, as the Catamounts were victorious 9-0. The senior also had an assist in the 57th minute against the Keydets. DeMarco followed that performance up with a pair of goals at The Citadel on Oct. 5, scoring the game-winning goal in the fifth minute and her second in the 34th minute.

Malone posted a pair of shutouts for UNCG last week. The senior began her week with four saves in a 1-0 win over Furman on Oct. 2. The Spartans’ win gave the Paladins their first defeat in 10 matches, dating back to Aug. 14. The product of Wallingford, Connecticut, logged a save in the team’s scoreless draw at Wofford on Oct. 5. Malone now has four shutouts this season.

Western Carolina (7-4-3, 3-1-1 SoCon) plays against Wofford on Friday. UNCG (3-8-2, 2-1-2) travels to Mercer on Saturday.
