Bellarmine's Mayer named SoCon wrestler of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Bellarmine’s Daulton Mayer has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Feb. 5-11.
The native of Mentor, Kentucky, went 2-0 last week with heavyweight wins versus The Citadel and Davidson.
In both wins, Mayer closed out the matches with pins, defeating The Citadel’s Adam Ortega and Davidson’s DJ Spring. Mayer’s victory over Ortega helped seal the 23-17 team win for the Knights, and his triumph against Spring occurred 33 seconds into the match as Bellarmine won the dual 42-3. These two pins bring his season total to 13, which is second in the NCAA in that category.
The senior teaching major improved to 18-10 on the season. In the heavyweight class, Mayer is ranked first among SoCon wrestlers in the most recent FloWrestling rankings.
Bellarmine now looks ahead to SoCon matchups between Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb on Feb. 14.
