Campbell's Wynton Denkins named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell’s Wynton Denkins has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14.
A native of Perrysburg, Ohio, Denkins went undefeated at the David H. Lehman ‘68 Franklin & Marshall Open on Jan. 10.
The sophomore won six matches in the 149 pound weight class en route to an F&M Open championship, being one of two Campbell wrestlers to claim first place at the event.
His first three victories were all bonus-point margins, with two major decisions and a technical fall. Denkins would follow that up with three consecutive victories over seeded opponents to take first place.
Denkins competed as the number two seed in the event, with a highlight 6-3 decision win over Columbia’s Kai Owen who was seeded at No. 3 and was an NCAA Qualifier last season.
Denkins rose one spot on the FloWrestling rankings, currently sitting at 31st in his weight class. He is now 20-6 on the season.
The Camels will open their SoCon schedule on Jan. 17 as they visit Gardner-Webb.
