Davidson's Tyler-Xavier McKnight named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Tyler-Xavier McKnight has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25.  

The native of Cartersville, Georgia, picked up four victories during the Wildcat Open, winning the tournament at 149 pounds.  

Going undefeated on the day, McKnight earned his wins by technical fall, two decisions, and a pin of Duke’s Dylan Ross in 98 seconds in the championship match. McKnight’s decisions also came against Duke wrestlers, with a 5-2 win over Peter Chacon and a 6-0 triumph against Elijah Murray. The sophomore’s technical fall win came against Gardner-Webb's Sam Harris by a score of 17-2. 

McKnight leads the Wildcats with 26 wins on the season, finishing 26-12 heading into the SoCon Wrestling Championship. McKnight is ranked sixth among SoCon wrestlers in the 149-pound weight class, in the most recent FloWrestling rankings. 

The Wildcat Open closed Davidson’s regular season matches, and the squad now looks ahead to the SoCon Wrestling Championships on March 7-8.
