SoCon Wrestler of the Week Announced
The Citadel's DesRosier Pushes Bulldogs to Key Road Win at Chattanooga
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Citadel redshirt junior Carson DesRosier was named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for matches held between January 28-February 3.
DesRosier (Helena, MT / Capital HS) proved to be the deciding point in a 19-18 team win over preseason SoCon favorite Chattanooga on January 31, pinning the Mocs’ Yuta Otera in 4:38 to open the dual. After the Mocs tied the team score with a major decision in the final bout, DesRosier’s fall became the tiebreaker (Criterion 3.21.B). The win improved DesRosier’s season record to 11-6 (3-0 SoCon) and marked the 47th win of his career. He has posted five dual wins in a row, with the last three coming via bonus points.
DesRosier was ranked No. 33 in the initial NCAA Coaches’ Rankings released on January 29.
The Citadel (7-6, 3-0 SoCon) gets back to SoCon action on February 6 at Gardner-Webb (6:00 pm). With a win, the Bulldogs would move into a tie for first place with App State (7-5, 4-0 SoCon), setting up a showdown atop the standings on Super Bowl Sunday (February 8) in Boone, NC, between the Bulldogs and Mountaineers.
