SoCon Announces First Wrestler of the Week for 2026
Chattanooga’s Flynn Powers Mocs to Top 10 Team Finish at Southern Scuffle
SPARTANBURG, SC – Chattanooga senior Cooper Flynn was named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for competition held between December 24-January 6.
Flynn (Seymour, TN / McDonogh School) was one of four Chattanooga wrestlers to place at the 2026 Southern Scuffle, taking third in a stacked 125-pound weight class that featured nine ranked wrestlers. Flynn went 5-1 at the event, including three wins over wrestlers ranked in the top 33 nationally. His lone loss came by an 8-3 decision to third-ranked Eddie Ventresca (Virginia Tech), who went on to win the bracket at 125 pounds.
Flynn scored a team-high 10 points at the Scuffle, powering Chattanooga to a ninth-place finish in the team standings. He defeated 19th ranked Greg Diakomihalis (Cornell) in the third-place match by 1-0 decision and allowed only three takedowns in his six matches. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Flynn is ranked 24th nationally this week by WrestleStat, 25th by FloWrestling, and 32ndby Intermat.
Chattanooga (3-4) begins SoCon dual action on January 16 at Gardner-Webb. That match is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
