<div class="payload-richtext"> SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga was picked as the favorite in the 2025-2026 Southern Conference wrestling preseason poll in voting by the league’s nine head coaches. Four teams collected at least one first place vote, with the Mocs followed closely in the ranking by defending champion App State and 2025 tournament runner up The Citadel.  The Mountaineers and Bulldogs wrestled hard through the final whistle in at the Explore Asheville SoCon Championship last March, with the team title hanging in the balance until Stephan Monchery’s arm was raised in a decision in the heavyweight finals – securing a 79.5 to 73.5 win for the Mountaineers. Bellarmine was picked fourth, followed by Gardner-Webb and Campbell. VMI, Davidson, and Presbyterian rounded out the poll. The Citadel paced the 11-man preseason All-SoCon Team, with returning SoCon Most Outstanding Wrestler Thomas Snipes leading a trio of 2025 SoCon Champions that includes Gylon Sims (125) and Carson DesRosier (149). Gardner-Webb’s TK Davis (133) and App State’s Monchery (HWT) also return after winning SoCon titles last season and earned preseason All-SoCon nods. Bellarmine’s AJ Rallo (149) earned a spot on the preseason team after earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships last March. Chattanooga saw two wrestlers garner preseason honors, with two-time NCAA qualifier Cody Chittum (157) and veteran Kamdyn Munro (174) on the team. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Four Southern Conference wrestlers were among the 46 at-large selections for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, including App State’s Will Miller and Carson Floyd, Bellarmine’s AJ Rallo, and Campbell’s Wynton Denkins.     Seventeen wrestlers from six of the nine SoCon schools will be represented at the 2025 tournament, which starts March 20. The Citadel leads the way with four representatives, App State, Campbell, and Chattanooga have three, while Bellarmine and Garnder-Webb each have two.   Miller, Floyd, Rallo, and Denkins, join the 10 SoCon wrestling champions and the three who received additional allocations on the NCAA wrestling national stage. The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, ratings percentage index, coaches ranking and conference tournament finish. Seeding and brackets for this year’s event will be revealed tomorrow, March 12, during the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Selection Show on NCAA.com at 8 p.m. ET.     Individual champions/NCAA qualifiers  125 – Gylon Sims, The Citadel  133 – T.K. <div class="payload-richtext">ASHEVILLE, N.C. - App State won the 2025 Explore Asheville Southern Conference Wrestling Championship on Saturday at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, North Carolina. The Mountaineers successfully defended their 2024 title with their fifth league crown in 10 years. The Citadel’s head coach Ryan LeBlanc was voted Coach of the Year after leading his team to a runner-up finish in the conference tournament. Thomas Snipes, the 165-pounder from The Citadel, was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler after punching his way to the NCAA Tournament.  App State won the tournament with 79.5 points, The Citadel came in a close second with 73.5 points. Campbell was third with 71.5 points, followed by Chattanooga (66.0), Gardner-Webb (50.0), Bellarmine (45.5), VMI (10.5), Davidson (6.0), and Presbyterian (5.0).  App State picked up a critical individual title win with Stephan Monchery (HWT) to seal the tournament championship. The Mountaineers’ Chad Bellis was the tournament’s Knight Commission Pinnacle Award winner, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA on the championship-winning team.   The tournament runner-up The Citadel picked up three individual titles from Gylon Sims (125), Carson DesRosier (149), and Snipes. SoCon Freshman of the Year, T.K. Davis, sealed the individual title at 133 pounds with a 3-0 decision. Runnin’ Bulldogs teammate Todd Carter (141) also became an individual champion on Saturday.  Chattanooga captured a pair of gold medals with wins at 157 and 174, courtesy of Noah Castillo and Sergio Desiante, respectively. Campbell’s Levi Hopkins won his third straight individual title, after wrestling his way to gold in the 197-pound weight class.  To round out the gold medalists, Bellarmine’s Devan Hendricks punched his ticket to the NCAA Tournament at the 184-pound weight class, becoming the first Knight to be earn a SoCon individual championship.  The 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championship bouts will be announced Wednesday, March 12. <div class="payload-richtext">ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The 2025 Explore Asheville SoCon Wrestling Championship opened with an exciting day one. App State leads the field through the first day of competition. The nine-man brackets kicked off at noon on Friday, with the pigtails preliminary round.  Following pigtails, the schedule proceeded to the first round, consolation first round, and consolation quarterfinals, before the break.  The second half of the day welcomed the semifinals round to Kimmel Arena. With the mat count down to two, wrestlers prepared to punch their way into the finals.  At 125, Garnder-Webb's Tyson Lane (No. 5) pulled an upset over Campbell's Anthony Molton (No.1), winning by decision with a score of 8-2. The Citadel’s Gylon Sims won by major decision, 11-2, over Bellarmine’s Jack Parker. Lane and Sims will face off in the finals tomorrow. In the 133-pound weight class, both finalists advanced in the semifinals via major decision. SoCon Freshman of the Year T.K. Davis (Gardner-Webb) defeated Trayce Eckman (Bellarmine), 16-6, while Blake Boarman (Chattanooga) was victorious over Logan Heil (Campbell) 11-3. Campbell and Gardner-Webb will be represented in the finals in the 141-pound weight class with Shannon Hanna and Todd Carter set to face off. The Camels’ Hanna topped App State’s Aldo Hernandez, 14-4, and Carter won 7-2 against Ryan Luna of Presbyterian.  If the crowd was not already into the matchups, Kimmel Arena certainly felt the energy with the 149-pound semis. Carson DesRosier (The Citadel) and Kaden Keiser (App State) advanced to the finals in dramatic fashion by decision against Wynton Denkins (Campbell) and Tyler-Xavier McKnight (Davidson), respectively. DesRosier was victorious in a 6-5 decision, and Keiser won 4-2. Chattanooga’s Noah Castillo and Campbell’s Chris Earnest both became the second wrestlers to advance to the finals from their respective schools in 157-pound weight class. Castillo would be joined by Mocs teammates, Sergio Desiante and Kamdyn Munro, at 174 and 184 respectively. Following Earnest, Levi Hopkins (Campbell) became the final Camel to punch his way through to the finals in the 197-pound weight class.  App State advanced three wrestlers to the finals, with SoCon Wrestler of the Year Will Miller (165), Luke Uliano (174), and Stephan Monchery (HWT) advancing.  With the only sudden victory in the semifinals round, The Citadel’s Thomas Snipes (165) advanced with a win over Dom Baker (Campbell), on the other side of the bracket App State’s Will Miller (165) advanced by a 12-2 major decision against Bryce Griffin (Davidson).  Devan Hendricks (184) was the lone Bellarmine Knight to advance to the finals after clinching a tech fall victory in his semifinal matchup against Logan Eller (App State).  The Citadel Bulldogs brought a lot of hype to the arena at the final two weight classes. Patrick Brophy (197) narrowly defeated Carson Floyd (App State), 8-7, and Jonathan Chesser made a statement with his 11-3 major decision win over Bellarmine’s Daulton Mayer.  App State’s Stephan Monchery (HWT) also punched his ticket to the finals with a 4-2 decision over Josh Evans (VMI).  To round out day one, the eight-man consolation semifinals were held to determine who would compete for third place on Saturday.  Advancers during the consolation semis include: Jack Parker (125 – Bellarmine), Anthony Molton (125 – Campbell), Chad Bellis (133 - App State), George Rosas (133- The Citadel), AJ Rallo (141 – Bellarmine), Eli Knight (141 – Chattanooga), Joey Giordano (149 – Gardner-Webb), Wynton Denkins (149 – Campbell), Jeremiah Price (157 - App State), Drew Pepin (157- Gardner-Webb), Dom Baker (165 – Campbell), Jackson Hurst (165 – Chattanooga), Riley Augustine (174 – Campbell), Benjy Haubert (174 – Citadel), Braxton Lewis (184 – VMI), Logan Eller (184 – App State), Carson Floyd (197 – App State), Andrew Liber (197 – Bellarmine), Josh Evans (HWT – VMI) and Daulton Mayer (HWT – Bellarmine).  The SoCon earned two NCAA allocations at 133, 141, and 197 pounds. <div class="payload-richtext">Another wrestling season has come and nearly passed, with the only remaining dates left on the calendar Friday and Saturday at the Explore Asheville Southern Conference Wrestling Championships followed by those who qualify for NCAA’s March 20-22. That’s the big question this time of year, who’s punching their ticket to Philadelphia for the NCAA Tournament?    Before diving into all the weights, a quick sidebar on how you qualify for NCAAs. There are 33 qualifiers for the NCAA tourney at each of the 10 weights. Eight of those are automatic qualifiers, earned by being a conference champ, so no matter what, the SoCon will take 10 conference champions to the NCAAs. That leaves 25 remaining spots that are distributed across all eight conferences on a sliding scale using three standards, win percentage, coach’s rank, and RPI. There is a minimum bar of .700 winning percentage, top 30 coaches ranking, and top 30 RPI ranking. A wrestler must meet the threshold in at least two of those standards to earn an allocation for their conference. At least four allocations are withheld for at-large bids that are awarded individually after the conference tournaments have concluded. It is important to note that because an individual earns the allocation, this does not guarantee they are going to NCAAs. They still must take care of business on the mat by placing high enough at the tournament, see SoCon 141 pounds for a good example of this.   125 Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: None  At Large’s Available: Four Anthony Molton from Campbell would be the favorite to win this weight and has really rounded into form lately. Molton took a 2-6 record into the second semester but since the first whistle of the Southern Scuffle he’s gone 13–1. Unfortunately for Molton, that rough start to the season has probably made him a bubble candidate for an at-large bid and he would want the rest of the conference tournaments to go chalk if he gets upset in Asheville this weekend. The Citadel’s Gylon Sims and App State’s Bryson Terrell would have the greatest chance of pulling the upset. 133 Allocations – Two  Wrestlers who earned an Allocation – Blake Boarman (Chattanooga) & TK Davis (Gardner-Webb)  At Large’s Available: Four  Full disclosure, two years ago I was at the Black Knight Invitational and saw TK Davis lose 15–0 to a Penn State wrestler but I pointed him out to the person next to me and said this kid is going to win some matches that will surprise folks not paying attention to the small schools. Later that year he pinned a wrestler from Virginia (who coincidentally beat that Penn St wrestler at NCAAs) and earlier this season Davis beat the #11 ranked wrestler from Rutgers. The way he kept wrestling no matter the score and the way he moved, it caught my eye.  I share all this to say with absolutely no disrespect to Boarman and the Chattanooga staff, Davis is my pick to win the weight.  Story time aside, both Davis and Boarman have a resume that is good enough to get an at large should they get upset this weekend and that’s a good thing because this weight is the one to watch. Dom Zaccone (Campbell) and Dyson Dunham (VMI) are both former NCAA qualifiers at this weight and App State has a fairly salty wrestler as well in Chad Bellis, who has wins over multiple former NCAA qualifiers.   141 Allocations – Two  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: Shannon Hanna (Campbell) & Todd Carter (Gardner-Webb) At Large’s Available: Four  I said 141 was a good example of a wrestler earning an allocation not a guarantee to NCAAs and here is why. Carter and Hanna both earned allocations but are both on the bubble for getting an at large if they slip up. The big question here is if AJ Rallo can steal a spot and get Bellarmine a qualifier. He's already beaten Hanna in January, so the threat is real.  If Rallo finishes top 2, he’s automatically going to Philadelphia and the wrestler he takes out will be left hoping for an at large, needing favorites to win across the country. 149  Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: None  At Large’s Available: Four I don’t think anyone at this weight across the conference would earn an at large bid, so the only path is winning the tournament. Campbell’s Wynton Denkins is the most interesting wrestler. He’s shown volatility, losing in overtime to highly ranked wrestlers from Oklahoma and Little Rock, but also suffering some more puzzling losses. I’m not going to speculate on the cause of the roller coaster ride but if the right Denkins steps on the scale then he’s my pick to win it.  Carson DesRosier from The Citadel has somewhat quietly put up a stellar 22–5 record, including a win over Denkins.  He has not had the opportunity to face a wrestler as credentialed as those Denkins has faced, but I would not be surprised at all if he’s standing at the top of the podium on Sunday. Kaden Keiser (App State), Xavier McKnight (Davidson), and Zac Cowan (Bellarmine) are also in this bracket and won’t be an easy out for anyone.   157 Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: None  At Large’s Available: Six While no one earned an allocation despite the talent the SoCon has here and even though there are six at large’s available, this weight is a mess nationally. Across all conferences there's going to be deserving kids not making the 33 qualifiers. Noah Castillo (Chattanooga), Jeremiah Price (App St), Tanner Peake (Davidson) if he’s healthy, and Chris Earnest (Campbell) all have a real shot of getting the AQ spot.  None of them have ever been to NCAAs before so it’ll be a milestone for whomever comes out unscathed.  With limited confidence, I’ll predict Castillo over Price in the finals on Sunday. 165 Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: Will Miller (App State)  At Large’s Available: Four Miller has the resume for an at large and will be the favorite to win the conference title.  The Citadel’s Thomas Snipes dropped a 6–4 decision to Miller in early January and will be the biggest threat to pull an upset but don’t count out Domonic Baker from Campbell either.  He won a match at NCAA’s last year and knows what it takes.   174 Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: Sergio Desiante (Chattanooga)  At Large’s Available: Four Desiante may have earned the allocation, but Lucas Uliano (App State) also has the resume to get then an at large and owns a dominating 15–1 win over Desiante a month ago. The loss to Uliano is one of only two blemishes on Desiante’s stellar season which includes a win over former All-American Lennox Wolak (Virginia Tech but formerly of Columbia).  Both of these wrestlers will want the comfort of having a guaranteed ticket so this final should be excellent to watch.  If someone else from the bracket is going to make a name for themselves, Grant O’Dell (Bellarmine) is likely the best bet to do so.   184  Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: None  At Large’s Available: Five Braxton Lewis (VMI) didn't earn an allocation but has a resume that is on the bubble for an at large bid including a win over a former qualifier from Arizona State, Devan Hendricks (Bellarmine) has an inferior resume for a potential at large bid perspective but is the biggest threat to Lewis, and even beat Lewis earlier this year as well as having a win over a former qualifier at Long Island University. Only two other people nationally who didn't earn allocations have a clear better resume than Lewis or Hendricks, but if they don’t get the AQ they are really playing with fire. Kamdyn Munro (Campbell) would be the dark horse here, holding a pin over a former three-time qualifier from Cal State Bakersfield. 197 Allocations – Two  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: Levi Hopkins (Campbell) & Patrick Brophy (The Citadel)  At Large’s Available: Four   Outside of Hopkins and Brophy, Carson Floyd (App State) has also put together a really nice season and holds an at large level resume. Looking at the landscape nationally, I think all three will wind up in Philadelphia, but I know everyone would rather take the guaranteed spots.    285 Allocations – One  Wrestlers who Earned an Allocation: None  At Large’s Available: Four It is unfortunate to have a Ghadiali sized hole in the SoCon at this weight, and I would not anticipate anyone getting an at large bid. That does mean the heavyweights have nothing to hold back on going for the top spot on the podium. Daulton Mayer (Bellarmine) has the best hair in the conference and would be my choice for the favorite to get to Philadelphia, but it is not a secure position.  Ethan Vergara (Chattanooga) does not sport a gaudy record, but he did just beat Mayer 4–2 in late February. Adam Ortega (The Citadel) and Stephan Monchery (App State) are in the conversation as well. Morven Saint Jeans (Presbyterian) is the landmine here; fully capable of pulling an upset and blowing up the bracket.  One last note, Bellarmine is in their first year of eligibility for the Division I postseason so if they punch anyone through, it would be their first ever NCAA qualifier. If Saint Jean does win heavyweight for Presbyterian, that would be their first ever NCAA qualifier as well. Good luck to all who lace’em up and toe the line! </div>

Davis (133) have been named the Southern Conference Wrestler and Freshman of the Year, respectively, by the league’s nine head coaches, the conference office announced Thursday.  Coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes, also selected a 10-member all-conference squad and a 10-member all-freshman team.   Miller posted a 19-1 record this season, going undefeated in SoCon duals (8-0) to become the fourth Mountaineer to win the honor in five seasons. The 165-pounder from Helena, Alabama, is ranked seventh in the NCAA in the 165-pound weight class, according to Intermat. A two-time NCAA qualifier (2023 and 2024), Miller also made the all-conference team and will be the No. 1 seed in his weight class this Friday at the SoCon Wrestling Championship.   App State collected two all-conference honors and put four wrestlers on the all-freshman team. Joining Miller on the all-conference squad was Luke Uliano (174). Jeremiah Price (157), Stephan Monchery (HWT), Aldo Hernandez (141), and Logan Eller (184) were named to the all-freshman team. Uliano went 21-7 this season and was 8-0 in conference matches, earning SoCon Wrestler of the Week distinction on Jan. 22. Price went 25-9 overall with a 7-1 mark in SoCon duals. Monchery went 16-9 on the season, and 7-1 in conference duals, tallying a total eight of pins. Hernandez went 18-12 overall, and Eller had a 14-9 record overall. Davis went 21-6 overall with an 8-1 conference record in his first season with the Runnin’ Bulldogs. The Rockmart, Georgia, native finished the regular season with seven pins. Davis, who is also a member of the all-freshman team, was named SoCon Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 18. The redshirt freshman is the No. 1 seed in 133-pound weight class headed into this week’s conference championship.   Along with Davis, teammate Todd Carter (141) represents Gardner-Webb on the all-conference team. Carter went 7-1 in SoCon duals, and 17-3 overall.   Campbell placed two wrestlers on the all-conference team, with Anthony Molton (125) and Levi Hopkins (197) represented on the team. Bellarmine also placed two wrestlers on the all-conference team with Devan Hendricks (184) and Daulton Mayer (HWT) representing the Knights. The Citadel and Chattanooga each placed one wrestler on the all-conference team with Carson DesRosier (149) and Noah Castillo (157), respectively.   Bellarmine’s AJ Rallo (141), The Citadel’s Gylon Sims (125), Davidson’s Tyson Sherlock (141) and Bryce Griffin (165), and Campbell’s Landon Sargent (HWT) rounded out the all-freshman team.   The SoCon Wrestling Championship is set to take place on March 7-8, at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, North Carolina. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has released the seeds for the 2025 Explore Asheville SoCon Wrestling Championship, the league office announced Wednesday. The championship is set to begin Friday, March 7, and conclude on Saturday, March 8, at Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville. Nine squads will compete for the 2025 SoCon title with 13 NCAA allocations available for the NCAA Championships.     The SoCon earned two NCAA allocations each at 133 pounds, 141 pounds and 197 pounds. The remaining weight classes earned one allocation each, which is the automatic qualifier for the conference tournament champion. App State seeks to defend its last two tournament titles under veteran head JohnMark Bentley. The Mountaineers finished with a share of the conference’s regular season title, with their only loss coming to Campbell on Feb. 23. Overall, App State went 8-4 on the season.  Campbell, shares the conference regular season title with App State, dropping one conference dual to The Citadel on Feb. 14. The Camels concluded their regular season campaign with a 7-1 conference record and 11-9 record overall.    Campbell’s Levi Hopkins (197) is looking for this third-straight title.  Hopkins, Anthony Molton (125), and Shannon Hanna (141) enter the championship as the No. 1 seeds in their respective weight classes for Campbell. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Tyler-Xavier McKnight has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25.  The native of Cartersville, Georgia, picked up four victories during the Wildcat Open, winning the tournament at 149 pounds.  Going undefeated on the day, McKnight earned his wins by technical fall, two decisions, and a pin of Duke’s Dylan Ross in 98 seconds in the championship match. McKnight’s decisions also came against Duke wrestlers, with a 5-2 win over Peter Chacon and a 6-0 triumph against Elijah Murray. The sophomore’s technical fall win came against Gardner-Webb's Sam Harris by a score of 17-2. McKnight leads the Wildcats with 26 wins on the season, finishing 26-12 heading into the SoCon Wrestling Championship. This is Mayer’s second consecutive recognition.  The native of Mentor, Kentucky, picked up a pair of wins, improving to 6-0 in SoCon duals on Valentine’s Day. The Knights grabbed two team conference victories against Presbyterian and Garnder-Webb that day, winning 49-0 and 23-12, respectively. Both of his wins came via pin. Mayer defeated Presbyterian’s Morvens Saint Jean in 55 seconds, and Gardner-Webb's Rock File in 2:08. Mayer’s last four matches have all been won by fall. The senior teaching major remains tied for first in the NCAA with 15 pins on the season.  Mayer maintains his number one ranking among SoCon heavyweight wrestlers, in the most recent FloWrestling rankings. Bellarmine now looks ahead to their final regular season match at Chattanooga on Feb. 23.  Also nominated: Carson DesRosier (The Citadel), T.K.
