SoCon announces Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Multiple personal records set ahead of conference championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Samford’s Bradley Franklin, Jaggerd Moore, and Lindsey Havens have been named the men’s track, men’s field, and women’s field indoor athletes of the week, respectively. Additionally, Western Carolina’s Katherin Hopkins has been selected as the women’s indoor track athlete of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday.  

Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competitions from Feb. 11-17. 

Franklin ran a personal best 7.56 in the men’s 60m hurdles at Clemson’s Tiger Paw Invitational on Feb. 13. With the time, the Alabaster, Alabama, native set a new school record and posted the 10th-best time in the country.  

Moore won the men’s high jump after tying his personal record of 2.14m as Samford hosted the Bulldog Invite last Friday. The Trussville, Alabama, product now ranks second in the SoCon in the event, just .02m behind teammate Arthur Chitty.  

Havens pole vaulted to the conference lead, clearing 3.97m at the Bulldog Invite. The Hudson, Ohio, native now ranks third all-time in Samford program history.  

Hopkins competed and won the open section of the 3K at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational over the weekend. A native of Lincolnton, North Carolina, her time of 9:53.73 is the third fastest in school history. Additionally, she ran a personal best 5:04.76 mile, placing second in the open section.  

Both teams now look ahead to the conference championship, which begins on Feb. 27.
