Furman Wins SoCon Women’s Golf Championship
The Paladins' Ryu claims individual title
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – Furman shot a 10-over-par 298 in Wednesday’s final round to close out the tournament nine strokes ahead of Chattanooga and claim the team title at the 2025 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship, which was contested at the Solina Golf Club. Furman’s Audrey Ryu shot 2-over-par in the final round, giving her the individual title with an overall score of 216 (E).
The Paladins clinched an automatic berth to the NCAA regionals with their championship win. The NCAA field will be announced live on the Golf Channel on Wednesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. eastern.
Furman led throughout the tournament on the way to claiming their eighth title in the last 10 tournaments, and 21st championship title in program history. Ryu was joined in the top 10 by teammate Alise Knudson, who finished sixth.
Ryu, who set a Solina Golf Club course record and SoCon championship low round record in the first round with a 6-under 66, also won the 2025 Women’s Golf Knight Commission Pinnacle Award, which goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA on the championship-winning team. Runner-up Chattanooga, led by Violeta Fernandez, tallied a three-day total of 907. Fernandez and Guilia Foresta were the top 10 finishers for the Mocs, at fourth and tied for seventh, respectively.
Mercer’s Mikayla Dubnik finished second, individually, with a three-day score of 3-over-par 219. Western Carolina’s Elizabeth Lohbauer placed third, finishing at 5-over 221. Samford’s Gabi Nicastro finished knotted up with Fernandez for fourth place (7-over, 223).
Following strong second and third rounds, Mercer posted a third-place finish, matching its best placement in the tournament. UNCG, who shot 16-over 304 on the final day, finished fourth, with ETSU finishing fifth after shooting a 21-over 309 on day three. Western Carolina and Samford both improved from their day two standings, with the Catamounts and Bulldogs finishing tied for sixth. Wofford finished eighth, just one shot behind Western Carolina and Samford. The Citadel rounded out the team standings.
