ETSU Remains in the Lead at the SoCon Women’s Golf Championship
Furman in Second Place – 10 Shots off the Pace

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – ETSU continues to hold the lead at the 2024 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship, with the Bucs’ Sophie Bert and Samford’s Bailey Dunston tied atop the individual leaderboard after the second day of competition at Moss Creek Golf Club’s par-72, 6,036-yard South course.
The Bucs shot 8-over-par 296 during round two, increasing their overall lead to 10 strokes over two-time defending champion Furman, which carded a 16-over 304 during Monday’s second round. Samford remained in third place following a second-round 10-over 298, trailing the Paladins by a single stroke.
Bert climbed five spots up the leaderboard on the strength of a second-round 1-under-par 71 that featured four birdies, including three on the back nine. Dunstan, who began the day in a four-way tie for second, shares the top spot following an even-par 72. Furman’s Anna Morgan, the defending individual champion, carded a 3-over 75 in round two and slipped into third place, one shot behind the co-leaders.
Western Carolina’s Brielle Mapanao jumped seven spots and is tied for fourth place, alongside Wofford’s Lilli Horn, with both owning 3-over-par 147s following the second round. Chattanooga’s Violeta Fernandez fired the best round of the day – a 2-under 70 – and catapulted 16 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth place. ETSU’s Brianna Castaldi and Grace Chin also share the sixth slot.
Mercer moved into fourth place after shooting an 8-over-par 296 in the second round to improve its overall score to 609. Western Carolina fell back one spot to fifth after shooting a 17-over-par 305 for the second consecutive day. Chattanooga sits in sixth place after two rounds with a score of 612, while UNCG and Wofford both slipped two spots into seventh and eighth place, respectively. The Citadel rounded out the nine-team field.
