Chattanooga's Wells named SoCon Golfer of the Week
Shot the lowest 54-hole score by a freshman in program history
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga's Erin Wells has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competitions held Feb. 18– 24, the league office announced Wednesday.
The Mocs competed at Wisconsin’s Westbrook Invitational on Feb. 22-23.
Wells led Chattanooga to a top-10 team finish, while shooting 70 in the first round, 69 in the second round, and 72 in the final round to finish with a final score of 5-under-par (211). Wells’ individual performance set a new program record as the lowest 54-hole score by a freshman. The performance also marked a season-low score among Chattanooga women’s golfers, and the team’s score tied for the sixth-best in school history.
Wells, a native of York, United Kingdom, concluded the event tied for 10th in total pars in the 84-player field with 38. The Mocs freshman also recorded an eagle, ranking her in the top five.
Chattanooga will return to the green on March 8, when the Mocs travel to Gadsden, Alabama for the Chris Banister Invitational hosted by Jax State.
