SoCon Women's Golfer of the Week announced
UNCG's Baeumken helps lead Spartans to home tournament title
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG senior Julia Baeumken has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition held October 15–21, the league office announced Wednesday.
The Spartans competed in two tournaments last week: the Evie Odom Invitational and the UNCG Collegiate.
Baeumken finished seventh overall at the Evie Odom Invitational, carding rounds of 68-72-71 for a two-over-par 212. The communications major was the top SoCon finisher in the tournament and becomes UNCG’s first women’s golf weekly honoree this season.
She followed up with a strong performance at the UNCG Collegiate, recording a two-over-par 218 to place third overall at the home event. Baeumken carded an even-par 72 in the second round, ranked in the top five on par-4 and par-5 holes, and recorded one eagle.
As a team, UNCG tied for ninth out of 12 at the Evie Odom Invitational and went on to capture the title at their home tournament just days later.
The win marks the end of the fall season for the Spartans, who will return to action on February 1 at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in West Palm Beach, Florida.
