Thursday's Women's Basketball Roundup

East Carolina 67, Furman 51

Jayla Hearp scored 14 points and East Carolina used a quick start to take control en route to a 67-51 win over Furman in women's basketball action Thursday evening in Williams Arena at Minges. Hearp scored eight of her 14 points in the first quarter to help the Pirates (2-1) grab a 22-7 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Paladins (2-2) answered with an 11-0 run to begin the second period to slice East Carolina's lead to 22-18 following a Tate Walters layup, but ECU blunted the run by scoring the final six points of the half to take a 34-22 advantage into the break.

Florida State 101, Samford 68

Samford junior center Emily Bowman scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 101-68 loss at Florida State Thursday evening at the Tucker Center. Samford fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss. Florida State improved its record to 3-1 with the win. Bowman has now had three double-doubles in the first four games of the season. Sadie Stetson and Alonya Waldon added 10 points each for Samford. For FSU, Makayla Timpson scored 38 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Sydney Bowles and Carla Viegas scored 17 points apiece for the Seminoles.

Troy 76, Chattanooga 66

Chattanooga women's basketball dropped a 76-66 result to Troy on Thursday night in the Roundhouse, as the physical Trojans side proved too much in the long run for the Mocs. A slow start from the Mocs (2-2) proved the difference as the Trojans (1-3) were able to pull out to a 21-3 advantage on UTC over the opening seven minutes of action. While the Mocs hung with Troy for the remainder of the night, even cutting the lead down to as little as four at one point, it was too little too late as Troy emerged victorious in a physical battle with the Mocs
