The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team dominated North Greenville, 91-31, on Monday night in Fleming Gym to begin the 2024-25 season. Makiah Asidanya led both teams with a new career-high of 18 points. Jayde Gamble posted her first career double-double with a new game-high of 10 rebounds and adding 17 points, going 4-for-4 from behind-the-arc.Western Carolina 119, Warren Wilson 36
The 2024-25 women's college basketball season started off strong for the Western Carolina Catamounts, as the Purple and Gold erupted for a 119-36 win over Warren Wilson to ring in the Jonathan Tsipis era. The 119 points scored by the Catamounts tied the single-game record set by the 1982-83 team in their 119-59 win over Berea College. While they tied the single-game record for total points scored, the 2024-25 Purple and Gold squad stands alone in the record book after forcing 30 steals in the victory, the most in a single game in program history.Furman 60, South Carolina State 54
Sydney Ryan scored 16 points and Furman used a strong third quarter to pull away from South Carolina State for a 60-54, season opening win Monday evening at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Ryan, a junior forward, hit 6-of-9 field goals, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, to lead Furman (1-0), which also got 10 points from graduate guard Tate Walters and freshman guard Raina McGowens.In her first game as head coach of Chattanooga women's basketball, head coach Deandra Schirmer and the Mocs found themselves in the win column after grabbing a 66-49 season-opening victory over Shorter University on Monday night. The Mocs (1-0) had contributors both young and old helping to guide the defending Southern Conference champions to a win in the Roundhouse, as it took a wide array of standout efforts from the Mocs to help get the job done versus the Hawks.The Mercer women's basketball team shot nearly 59 percent from the field, registered 44 points in the point and finished the evening with a 35-19 edge in the rebounding column as the Bears successfully kicked off the Michelle Clark-Heard era in Macon with a 75-52 rout of UNC Asheville on Monday in Hawkins Arena.After trailing 11-10 upon the end of the first quarter, the Wofford women's basketball team held Newberry scoreless in the second stanza en route to a 76-27 victory to open the campaign Monday night at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Wofford is 1-0 to begin the season, and Newberry remains 0-0 with this contest officially an exhibition for the Division II Wolves.
