Wofford guard made third team after averaging 22 points and sporting a 3.86 GPA


Austin, Texas – The College Sports Communicators announced their Academic All-American teams, which honors outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports, on Wednesday with Wofford’s Rachael Rose as a third team selection. 

Rose, the SoCon women’s basketball Player of the Year and Becky Hammon Award finalist, averaged 22 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game this season. The Scranton, Pennsylvania, product lead the league in scoring, free throw percentage (.870), assists per game (5.4), assist to turnover ratio (2.3), and steals per game (2.1). 

During the season Rose reached multiple career milestones, including 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. She is the 19th Terrier all-time to reach 1,000 points. She now holds Wofford’s single season record for scoring after pouring in 670 total points this season. She also holds a new single season assists record with 163.

Nationally, Rose finished the season ranked seventh in points per game, 25th in free throw percentage, and 27th in assists per game after leading the Terriers to a 17-13 record and semifinal appearance in the SoCon Tournament.

She recorded the program's first triple-double against Furman on January 20, the first in the league since 2014. Rose posted 23 games with at least 20 points, including three with 30-plus and eight double-doubles. She scored a new career high of 38, the third most in program history, in the SoCon semifinals against UNCG.

Rose amassed many honors during the campaign, which was capped with her repeating as SoCon Player of the Year whilst also earning First-Team All-SoCon recognition. She was named SoCon Player of the Week a record seven times this season and earned the player of the month award for three of the four months it was issued. She also was named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week three times. 

A junior, Rose was selected for the CSC Academic All-District team on March 26. She is majoring in Psychology and holds a 3.86 GPA.
