Southern Conference women’s basketball bracket set

UNCG comes in at the No. 1 seed

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has announced the seeding for the 2025 Ingles SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship, which will begin Thursday, March 6, at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina.
 
UNCG (22-6, 13-1 SoCon) won the regular-season title and will enter the 2025 tournament as the top seed. The Spartans will open the tournament against No. 8 seed Western Carolina (13-16, 3-11) on Thursday at 11 a.m. UNCG swept the matchups this year, winning 66-58 on Jan. 25 in Cullowhee, North Carolina, and 57-53 on Feb. 22. in Greensboro, North Carolina. UNCG is looking for its first tournament championship since the 1997-98 season.
 
Chattanooga (14-13, 9-5) is the No. 2 seed. The Mocs went 2-0 against No. 7 seed Mercer (8-21, 3-11) during the season. Chattanooga was victorious, 60-37, on Jan. 18 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and topped the Bears on Feb. 13, 69-39, in Macon, Georgia. These teams will face off in the 1:15 p.m. game on Thursday.
 
No. 3 seed ETSU (17-12, 8-6) will take on No. 6 Furman (15-15, 5-9) in the 3:30 p.m. matchup. The Bucs won both matchups between the two teams, 72-62, back on Jan. 30 in Greenville, South Carolina, and 62-50, in Johnson City, Tennessee, on March 1.
 
Wofford (16-11, 8-6) and Samford (12-18, 7-7) are slotted No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, and will face off in Thursday’s final game at 5:45 p.m. The two squads split the season series with the Terriers winning in Birmingham, Alabama, on Jan. 25, by a score of 84-49, and the Bulldogs won, 62-54, on Feb. 20, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
 
Semifinal action will take place on Friday and the women’s championship game will tip off on Sunday at noon ET.
 
All women’s basketball games will be held at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville and are set to be on ESPN+. The semifinal matches will be broadcast on Nexstar affiliates. The title game will air on ESPNU for the first time in conference history. For more information, visit SoConSports.com.
