Furman’s Tate Walters named SoCon player of the week
Graduate guard scored a career-high 30 points
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tate Walters has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 14-20, after averaging 23.5 points, six rebounds, and seven assists as the Paladins went 1-1 last week. This award is selected by the league office.
On Thursday Jan. 16, Walters scored a career-high 30 points in a 82-73 victory over Western Carolina, the first 30 point game by a Paladin since the 2017-18 season. The graduate guard added eight rebounds and eight assists, moving her into third place on Furman’s all-time assist ledger with 406 over her career.
In a 64-54 loss, the Buford, Georgia, native tallied 17 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals. On the week, Walters shot 51 percent from the field, including 6-for-12 from 3-point range.
Furman (11-8, 1-2 SoCon) travels to Samford on Thursday, Jan. 23, then to Mercer on Saturday, Jan. 25.
