Western Carolina 64, ETSU 60

East Tennessee State University women's basketball's comeback bid fell short, 64-60 at Western Carolina on Sunday. Free throw shooting throughout the game proved to be the Buccaneers' (9-8, 0-2) Achilles heel, as the Blue & Gold shot a season-worst 7-for-16 from the free throw line. The Catamounts (11-6, 1-1), however, shot 17-for-20 at the charity stripe, and outrebounded ETSU 41-27. The Bucs dropped the contest despite forcing 19 WCU turnovers and mounting a rally in the fourth quarter just days after playing their worst fourth quarter of the season at UNCG.

Wofford 68, Furman 51

One day later than originally scheduled after winter weather hit Spartanburg, the Wofford women's basketball team hit the hardwood inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium Sunday afternoon against the rival Furman Paladins to open Southern Conference action. With hot three-point shooting, the Terriers topped the Paladins 68-51 and improved to 9-5 (1-0 SoCon). Furman dropped to 10-7 (0-1 SoCon).

Evangelia Paulk scored 18 points and Wofford used hot 3-point shooting to race past Furman, 68-51, in Southern Conference women's basketball season opening action Sunday afternoon at Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers (9-5, 1-0 SoCon), who entered the contest shooting 28.6 percent from 3-point range, connected on 14-of-29 treys (48.3 percent) against the Paladins (10-7, 0-1 SoCon) in cruising to the win.
