Tuesday's Women's Basketball Roundup
Senior guard Braylyn Milton led the Bucs with 12. Senior guard Kendall Folley and junior forward Meghan Downing both added seven. Both teams started off shaky on the offensive end and strong on the defensive end of the floor. A 3-point make from Milton and a Gardner-Webb jumper was all the offense either side mustered for the first seven minutes of the contest. Milton hit another shot from beyond the arc and the Runnin' Bulldogs mustered some offense to end the quarter, but ETSU led 10-8 after the end of the quarter.Kentucky outshot Wofford 46.2 percent to 20.3 percent overall and 33.3 percent to 16.7 percent from distance. Though the Wildcats outrebounded the Terriers 51-37, Wofford won the offensive glass with 16 offensive boards to Kentucky's 14. The Wofford defense forced 14 turnovers with seven steals, but Kentucky's length posed issues with 10 blocks.
Western Kentucky 78, Mercer 54
Sharp-shooting Western Kentucky limited home-standing Mercer to a 25 percent shooting effort in the opening half to forge a big halftime lead, and then kept the Bears at a distance the rest of the way out on the way to a 78-54 victory on Tuesday evening at Hawkins Arena. The result marked the first home loss of the season for the Bears (1-2) who fell to 1-4 all-time in the series with Western Kentucky (3-0), including an 0-2 mark against the Lady Toppers at Hawkins Arena.
