UNCG Women’s Basketball Falls in WNIT First Round to NC A&T

Dropped its contest at North Carolina A&T, 56-51 on Friday night in the first round of the 2024 Postseason WNIT

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team dropped its contest at North Carolina A&T, 56-51 on Friday night in the first round of the 2024 Postseason WNIT at the Corbett Sports Center to complete the 2023-24 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
NC A&T got on the board first in the contest with a layup from Chaniya Clark, but that was the only lead the Aggies would hold in the first half. Ayanna Khalfani responded with a layup on the other end to begin a 10-3 run for the Spartans (12-5). The Aggies chipped in four unanswered points to close out the first quarter, but UNCG remained on top heading to the break, 12-9.
 
The Aggies started off the second frame with two more points, but the Spartans tallied a 14-2 run to take the 26-13 lead with 2:19 remaining in the first half. NC A&T was able to end the second quarter with four consecutive free throws, but UNCG remained on top, 28-19 going to the locker room.
 
NC A&T found its stride in the third quarter by outscoring the Spartans 21-12. The Aggies took the first lead of the game since the start of the contest with Paris Locke scoring two free throws (40-38). Makiah Asidanya chipped in for two free throws of her own to close out the third frame with a tied 40-point ball game.
 
The final quarter was an all-out battle between the Aggies and Spartans, coming down to the wire. The Aggies outlasted the Spartans 16-11 in the final frame. With 1:16 remaining in the game, Khalis Cain recorded a second chance layup to cut the deficit to one (52-51). NC A&T was able to close out the game with a 4-0 run to secure the 56-51 win.

  • Isys Grady and Nia Howard led the Spartans with 10 points apiece on the day.
  • Cain paced UNCG with 14 boards and three blocks.
  • UNCG had 37 total rebounds to NC A&T's 32.
