Furman's Ervin named women's basketball player of the week

Sophomore guard records career-high 24 points

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Alyssa Ervin has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by Ingles for games played on Jan. 13-19.  

The sophomore guard helped lead the Paladins to a pair of conference wins over UNCG and Western Carolina.  

Ervin had a strong impact on both ends of the floor, averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks, while playing 37.1 minutes per game across the two contests. She shot 38.5% from the field, 46.2% from three, and 75% at the free‑throw line, going 6‑for‑13 from behind the arc and 15‑for‑20 at the free-throw line. 

Against UNCG on Jan. 15, Ervin recorded a career‑high 24 points in a 69–56 win, contributing to Furman overcoming a 10‑point halftime deficit. On Jan. 17, she added 17 points in a 69–38 victory over Western Carolina, where the Paladins again recovered from a halftime deficit. 

The native of Galax, Virginia, ranks second on her team in points per game (13.1) and first on her team in free throw percentage (.758).  

Furman now looks ahead to a two-game road trip, visiting Mercer on Jan. 22, and Samford on Jan. 24.
