Chattanooga's Elisaldez named Women's Basketball Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Caia Elisaldez has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 25-Dec. 1.
Elisaldez averaged 19.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the field across two contests.
This week’s performance for the preseason player of the year was marked by game-winning free throws she made, securing a 59-57 win over Sacramento State. The Whittier, California, native tallied another 20-point game on the season, scoring 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting in the clutch win.
For the week, Elisaldez also connected on 66.7 percent of her free throws and added defensive contributions with 3.5 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game.
The junior guard is second in the league in points (14.2) and assists (4.2) per game, and is shooting 48.4 percent from the field on the season.
Elisaldez is the second straight Moc player to earn the weekly honor, following teammate Gianna Corbitt, who was last week’s winner.
The Mocs host Bellarmine on Dec. 7.
