East Tennessee State University softball didn't let a rain delay get in the way of an opportunity for a win, defeating Maine 3-1 on Saturday morning and afternoon.
Sophomore Gabrielle Fowler started in the circle for the Bucs and allowed one run to Maine in the first inning. That was all the Black Bears would muster, however, as Fowler and junior Taylor Suchy combined to splice three hits over the next six innings of work.Freshman Rachel Hawkins delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Furman to a 4-3 victory over Harvard and Saturday split at the Bash in the Boro at Eagle Field in Statesboro, Ga. Lipscomb edged the Paladins, 1-0, in the opening game of the day.The Samford softball team continued play at home this weekend as they faced UAB and Indiana State in the three-team Samford Tournament. The Bulldog bats were dominant in game one over the Blazers as they won by run rule 16-7 while in game two their pitching carried the day as they beat the Sycamores 3-1. The Bulldogs move to 5-2 after both victories today.The Chattanooga softball team was edged out by Lindenwood in the opening game Saturday before falling to North Alabama in the Mocs second game of the Chattanooga Challenge at Frost Stadium.The Wofford softball team (6-3) split the third and fourth games of the Hatter Classic on Saturday. The Terriers defeated Fairfield 2-0 behind a dominant pitching performance but were unable to sweep the host team Stetson in a rematch as they fell to the Hatters 1-0 in extra innings at Patricia Wilson Field.
