Friday's softball roundup

North Alabama 6, ETSU 3

East Tennessee State University softball lost the first game of the Rocket City Softball Showcase to North Alabama 6-3 on Friday.
The Bucs were led by senior infielder Sara Muir, who hit her first home run of the season. Junior infielder Riley Nayadley added three hits for the Blue & Gold. The duo combined for five of ETSU's six hits on the day.

Austin Peay 8, Furman 0

Brie Howard went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Sam Leski and Katie Raper belted back-to-back homers to lead Austin Peay to an 8-0 victory over Furman on the opening day of the Furman Softball Classic Friday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

Mercer 8, Middle Tennessee 1

Newcomer Sietske Drijvers highlighted a 5-run fifth inning with a 247-foot homer over the scoreboard in left field as the Bears stayed perfect in the MUSB Invitational with an 8-1 victory over Middle Tennessee State on Friday evening at Sikes Field.

UNCG 5, Iona 3

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team defeated non-conference foe Iona, 5-3, on Friday afternoon at the UNCG Softball Stadium in walk-off home run fashion.
 
This extended the Spartans' win streak to eight and they are now 9-2 overall. This is the longest win streak for UNCG since the 2023 season when the Spartans won nine-straight games between March 17 to March 29.

Samford 4, Southern Indiana 0

Belmont 3, Samford 1

The Samford softball program stayed close to home today as they took part in the Green and Gold Classic hosted by UAB today. The Bulldogs first took down Southern Indiana 4-0 before falling 3-1 to Belmont as a late Samford rally came up short. The Bulldogs move to 7-4 after splitting the two games on the day.

Wofford 3, Colgate 1

Wofford 6, North Carolina A&T 4

Wofford softball (9-3) earned a pair of wins behind two strong pitching performances over Colgate (1-6) and North Carolina A&T (2-6) Friday at Hope Field. This is the Terriers' eighth straight win at home, the most in program history.
