Chattanooga’s Phillips and Lavdis honored
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga infielder Kaili Phillips and Mocs right-hander Alyssa Lavdis have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games from April 22-28. The awards are selected by the league office.
Phillips hit .400, helping the Mocs to a 4-0 record last week. In the team’s 4-3 win at Tennessee State on April 23, the senior hit a two-run home run in the second inning. In the second game of squad’s doubleheader against Furman on April 27, Phillips hit solo home runs in the second and fifth inning as Chattanooga won the contest 3-0. The next day, the Ooltewah, Tennessee, native hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning during the Mocs’ 10-0 win over the Paladins, securing the series sweep for Chattanooga. Phillips’ four home runs this week moved her into third place in the SoCon in home runs this season with 14.
Lavdis made three appearances, throwing two complete games, for the Mocs this past week. In the game with Tennessee State, the junior threw 3 2/3 innings in relief, striking out five batters and allowing two runs. The product of Concord, Ohio, tossed a complete game in the Mocs’ 3-0 victory on April 27, finishing the game with four strikeouts and zero walks.
