SoCon Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford shortstop Olivia Shaw and Wofford right-hander Abby Greenwood have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for their efforts from Feb. 9-15. The awards are selected by the league office.

Last week, Samford’s Shaw led the league in six categories including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. On Feb. 10, Shaw had a double, a run scored and two RBIs in a 14-5 win over Alabama State. Three days later, the junior had two home runs and two walks in a 8-0 win over Lindenwood. In the second game that day against Belmont, Shaw finished with two hits, one being a double, and a walk versus Belmont. On Valentine’s Day, the native of Hoschton, Georgia, logged a double and a walk during a 9-6 win against Lindenwood. In the final game of the weekend, Shaw went 2-3 with a double and an RBI in a 10-2 setback against North Alabama.

Wofford’s Greenwood made two appearances, with one start, pitching 11 innings during the outings. On Feb. 13, the product of King George, Virginia, threw a complete game, striking out seven batters and allowing zero earned runs in a 5-1 win over UNC Wilmington. The next day, the junior threw four innings in relief, allowing just two hits with one strikeout in a 3-1 victory against UMBC. Greenwood currently leads the SoCon in ERA (1.33).

Samford (4-6) plays at Georgia on Feb. 18, before going to Starkville, Mississippi, to play in the Bulldog Invitational over the weekend against Mississippi State, Delaware State and Belmont. Wofford (8-1) travels to Presbyterian on Feb. 18. The Terriers return home to host the Sparkle City Invite on Feb. 20-21, where they will face Morgan State, Robert Morris, Holy Cross and Harvard.
