Sunday's softball roundup

ETSU 2 , Wofford 0

ETSU - East Tennessee State University softball salvaged the series against Wofford behind a complete-game shutout from  Sara Muir  to win 2-0 on Sunday.
Both pitchers started off strong, with just one hit allowed total in the first three innings. Muir allowed a leadoff single but settled in quickly, going three up, three down in the third and fourth. WOF -
The Wofford softball team (30-19, 11-7 SoCon) dropped the final game of the weekend series against ETSU (16-33, 5-13 SoCon) on Sunday, April 27. Wofford tallied five hits and left five runners on base in the 2-0 loss.  

Mercer 7 , UNCG 0

MER - Hallie Langford Grace Jones  and  Hannah Rivers  all hit homers amid a big offensive day that helped support a gem of an outing from  Gabby Ellis  in the circle as Mercer registered a series-clinching 7-0 shutout of visiting UNC Greensboro on Sunday at Sikes Field.

UNCG - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to the Mercer Bears 7-0 on Sunday at Sikes Field to conclude regular season road play.
 
UNCG is 36-16 overall and 12-6 in The Southern Conference (SoCon), while Mercer is 28-23 overall and 8-9 in the conference.

Western Carolina 10 , Furman 1

WCU - Riding the emotion of Senior Day, Western Carolina softball left no doubt on Sunday afternoon as a six-run third inning spurred the Catamounts to the 10-1 run-rule victory over their chromatic rival Furman at the Catamount Softball Complex.

FUR - Western Carolina tallied six runs in the bottom of the third inning on Sunday en route to a 10-1 victory over Furman as the Catamounts claimed the best-of-three series versus the Paladins at the Catamount Softball Complex.

Chattanooga 5 , Samford 1

UTC - The Chattanooga softball team completed the series sweep of Samford Sunday afternoon at Frost Stadium with a 5-1 win, extending its Southern Conference lead to a game-and-a-half over UNCG and two-and-a-half over the Bulldogs.
 
The Mocs tallied eight hits including two home runs.  Peja Goold's  no-hit bid was broken up with two hits in the sixth. She improved to 21-5 on the year and struck out nine, walking just one.

SAM - The Samford softball team finished play this weekend in Southern Conference play at Chattanooga. The Bulldogs were unable to avoid a series sweep against the now first-place Mocs as Samford fell 5-1 in the series finale. The Bulldogs fall to 30-21 overall and 11-7 in SoCon play after the defeat this afternoon.
