<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, SC – Georgia Southern sophomore Emme Walrath and junior Bremen Butler were named SoCon Rifle Athletes of the Month for October. Walrath (Kenosha, WI) earned the honor in Smallbore and Butler (Fort Wayne, IN) was honored in Air Rifle. Walrath averaged a team and SoCon-high score of 589.500 over the first month of the season and finished October ranked eighth nationally in smallbore average. She shot a career-high 593 at Wofford on October 18 and has posted three matches with scores of 590 or higher this season. Walrath finished first in smallbore in the season opener vs. No. 12 Ohio State and Aloysius and on October 12 vs. No. 14 Army, No. 18 North Georgia, and Schreiner. Walrath was named SoCon Rifle Athlete of the Month three times last season and was a first-team All-SoCon selection in both Smallbore and Air Rifle in 2024-25. Butler averaged a team and SoCon-best 597.167 to start the season, ranking in the top 10 nationally in air rifle average. She posted three scores of 599 (out of 600), including back-to-back efforts in Colorado on October 25 and October 26. Her accuracy on October 26 helped Georgia Southern post a school-record of 2,393 in the discipline. Butler finished first individually that day against a field that included No. 3 Alaska, No. 7 TCU, and No. 14 Air Force. Butler earned SoCon Athlete of the Month honors last January and is the reigning SoCon Athlete of the Year in both Smallbore and Air Rifle after terrific 2024-25 campaign. Georgia Southern (14-2) is off to a fantastic start once again in 2025-26, rising to No. 2 in the most recent national rankings. <div class="payload-richtext">Georgia Southern’s Bremen Butler has been named the Southern Conference Smallbore and Air Rifle Athlete of the Year, after dominating both disciplines throughout the regular season. She became the fifth athlete to sweep the Athlete of the Year awards after Georgia Southern won its fourth straight SoCon Rifle Championship title. Butler posted season-highs of 594 and 599 in smallbore and air rifle, respectively. Butler averaged a score of 587.231 in smallbore and 595.462 in air rifle, recording her highest aggregate score on Jan. 11 at Murray State with 1191. The Fort Wayne, Ind., product fired a 598 in the air rifle relay during the SoCon Championship, matching the record set by former GSU athlete Rosemary Kramer in 2019. Walrath has earned the honor in both smallbore and air rifle. The selection is made by the league office and is the third of the season.  Butler, a sophomore, averaged a team best 589.333 in smallbore competition in January.  </a>  CHARLESTON, S.C. – Georgia Southern surpassed its air rifle score from last year by two points, en route to winning its fourth SoCon team title. The air rifle victory marks the second time in program history that the Eagles have won all three titles in the same year.  The Eagles followed their smallbore portion from Saturday with a 2,384 in the air rifle portion on Sunday to claim the SoCon title with a 4,718-aggregate score. GSU’s head coach Soren Butler was named SoCon Co-Coach of the Year. North Georgia finished second to GSU in aggregate with a score of 4,616, claiming runner-up honors over UAB (4,573). SoCon Co-Coach of the Year Lt. Col. Bill Bither’s VMI Keydets finished at fourth with 4,541, followed by VMI’s women’s team (4,512), The Citadel (4,494), The Citadel’s women’s team (4,447), and Wofford (4,429).  GSU’s Bremen Butler fired at 598 in the air rifle relay matching the championship record set by former GSU’s Rosemary Kramer in 2019, to lead the contingent of eight finals qualifiers.  In the finals, Butler was joined by teammates, Ella Goldfaden, Emma Pohlmann, Emme Walrath, and Tori Watts.  </a>  CHARLESTON, S.C. – Defending overall Southern Conference champion Georgia Southern claimed its fifth consecutive smallbore crown Saturday at the 2025 SoCon Rifle Championships at the GSU Shooting Sports Education Center in Statesboro, Georgia. GSU Tori Watts claimed the individual title. Butler and Walrath were joined by Ella Goldfaden, Emma Pohlmann, and Watts as five Eagles advanced to the finals.  The Citadel’s Emrie Fast-Clarke, UAB’s Meghan McLaughlin, and UNG’s Maya Cameron rounded out the finals field.   There, Watts claimed the title after totaling 456.2 to top teammate, Pohlmann by one-tenth of a point, who posted a 456.1. GSU rounded out the top five with Butler, Walrath, and Goldfaden finishing third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.  Watts' win marks the fourth consecutive individual smallbore champion for GSU.UAB finished third in the team smallbore standings with 2,260 points, VMI was fourth at 2, 233, followed by The Citadel (2, 214), VMI women’s team (2,213), The Citadel’s women’s team (2,200) and Wofford (2,148).  Georgia Southern will look to defend its air rifle title when the SoCon Rifle Championship resumes Sunday.   Sunday’s first relay is set for 7:45 a.m. and the finals are scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.    2024 SoCon Rifle Championship Smallbore team scores  1. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2025 Southern Conference Rifle Championships will be contested this weekend at the Shooting Sports Education Center in Statesboro, Georgia. Georgia Southern is the defending team champion.  Smallbore competition will begin Saturday at 8 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 3 p.m. Air rifle follows on Sunday with the first relay at 7:45 a.m. and the finals scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. Georgia Southern has won three straight team championships. In 2024, the Eagles claimed their fourth straight smallbore title with a score of 2,343 and their first air rifle championship since 2017 with a score of 2,382 for a tournament-record aggregate score of 4,725.  Georgia Southern’s Emma Pohlmann captured both the smallbore individual and air rifle individual title with scores of 461.5 and 247.1, respectively, en route to being named the SoCon Smallbore and Air Rifle Athlete of the Year. This year’s Georgia Southern squad is ranked No. 4 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll. North Georgia and UAB also enter SoCon Championship weekend ranked No. 19 and No. 20, respectively.  As a team, the Eagles lead the SoCon in smallbore (2,344.4), air rifle (2,382.333) and aggregate (4,727.9) this season. North Georgia follows closely in second place in both disciplines averaging a score of 2,2950 in smallbore, 2346.1 in air rifle. They are also second overall with an aggregate average of 4,641.1. GSU’s Emme Walrath has been dominant in both disciplines this season, as she leads the league in both categories and aggregate. The Kenosha, Wisconsin, product who earned SoCon smallbore and air rifle athlete of the month for October and November, averages 588 in smallbore and 597 in air rifle for a season average aggregate score of 1,184. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Emme Walrath has been selected as the Southern Conference Rifle Athlete of the Month for November. Walrath has earned this month’s honor in both smallbore and air rifle. The selection is made by the league office and is the second of the season.  Walrath, a freshman, averaged 588 in smallbore and 597.500 in air rifle in two matches against VMI and Alaska Fairbanks. Against VMI, Walrath was first out of 18 individuals in smallbore and claimed the top spot in air rifle for both November matches.   Walrath shot 598 in air rifle against second-ranked Alaska Fairbanks, one point shy of her season high of 599. Walrath is tied for third in the NCAA for both air rifle and aggregate scoring and is sixth in the rankings for smallbore. Walrath leads all SoCon competitors in smallbore, air rifle, and aggregate scores.  The native of Kenosha, Wisconsin, leads all SoCon competitors in all three scoring categories, air rifle, smallbore, and aggregate.  Georgia Southern will resume competition in the new year when they travel to Murray State on Jan. 11.  2024-25 SoCon Rifle Athlete of the Month  October Emme Walrath, Fr., Georgia Southern November Emme Walrath, Fr., Georgia Southern  </div>

GSU junior Tori Watts swept the individual finals honors, placing first in both the Smallbore and Air Rifle finals. GSU sophomore Emma Pohlmann was named the SoCon Smallbore and Air Rifle Athlete of the Year as all-conference awards were announced at the conclusion of the two-day event.
