SPARTANBURG, S.C. – App State’s Sean Carter has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Nov. 1-8. The selection is made by the league office and is the first one of the 2022-23 season.
Carter, who is ranked No. 22 at 133 pounds, began his 2022-23 season with a win over a nationally ranked opponent on Friday, Nov. 4, at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, North Carolina. The fourth-year junior made his season debut with a 3-1 decision in overtime over 11th-ranked North Carolina State wrestler Kai Orine. The North Babylon, New York, native helped the Mountaineers (0-1, 0-0 SoCon) to wins in four of 10 matches against the ninth-ranked Wolfpack, which won the dual 26-12.
The Mountaineers followed that by placing eight wrestlers, including one champion, in the Southeast Open on Saturday, Nov. 5.
App State hosts the Mountaineer Invitational in Boone, North Carolina, on Saturday, Nov. 12.
