Mercer's Kithcart Named 2019 Good Works Team Nominee

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Mercer redshirt senior defensive tackle Dorian Kithcart was named a candidate for the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the American Football Coaches Association announced Tuesday morning.

Kithcart’s nomination makes him eligible for one of the most esteemed honors in college football; the 137 nominees for the Good Works Team are comprised of football student-athletes who demonstrate a unique dedication to community service and desire to make a positive impact on the lives around them.

Kithcart graduated Cum Laude with his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Mercer University this past spring and has one year of athletic eligibility remaining this fall. He was selected as Mercer’s 2019 Commencement Student Speaker.

Kithcart has volunteered and participated in numerous community service efforts throughout his collegiate career, including Backpack Ministry programs at local elementary schools, where he and others identified malnourished and underfed children and built bonds with them. He has additionally volunteered with the Middle Georgia and Macon Special Olympics programs and has done after-school reading at various elementary schools, among other initiatives.

The Durham, N.C. product has played in 32 of a possible 33 games as Mercer’s starting defensive tackle since 2016. He totaled career-bests of 29 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks last season and is a former Southern Conference All-Freshman Team selection.

The final 22-member team and honorary coach will be selected in September by a voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent media members who look for both their dedication to giving back and the embodiment of true leadership on and off the football field. The team will include 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS); 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II, III and the NAIA; and one honorary coach.
